Racial Minorities Have Higher Drowning Rates – Let’s Change The Numbers!

drowning rates for racial minority

Let’s look at these terrible numbers. If you are not an American caucasion, you are more likely to drown. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports the following drowning rates numbers for those that are not white Americans:
– Black Americans have a drowning rate 140% higher than their white Americans
– Alaskans and Native Americans drown at twice the rate of white Americans

These are historical numbers, but we can change them. Some of these numbers are slanted because certain groups of people are more likely to be closer to water. But, mainly these numbers are the result that certain groups of people have historically had limited swimming skills.

At Life Saver Survival Swim School I want EVERYONE to be safer around water – it does not matter if you are white, black, oriental, arab, male, female, young, or old. I want everyone to be safer around water!

Classes Taught In Your Neighborhood

I give swim instructions to students directly in your neighberhoods. I get families to volunteer the use of their own swimming pools, so my training classes change locations and will eventually be in your neighborhood. At some point, my classes are never too far from you.

I Encourage Life-Long Swimming Skills

Some people may think that they are not very close to water, so swimming skills are unneccesssary. They don’t have a swimming pool, they don’t live near a lake, and the ocean is too far away. So, why should they teach their children to swim?

Well, swimming is so much more! It is a life-long skill and an exciting sport on its’ own. You’ll never know when swimming may be neccessary and it’s a competitive world sport. I make learning fun for children so that they’ll want to continue swimming even after they have learned to swim.
