In north Houston, the parents of a 3-year-old little girl that drowned are pleading with all parents to teach their children how to swim at an early age. The little girl’s name was Camilla. Unfortunately, she drowned even though her father, Chad Cannon, was close-by.

A Sad Story from a Family That Did Not Teach Children to Swim

The father and mother had taken their three children to a friend’s home that had a swimming pool in July. After swimming, the father started gathering all the children together to leave. As usual, Camilla took off her life vest so she could wash off her feet in the pool before they all left.

Apparently, Camilla unfortunately must have fallen into the pool. All he knows, Chad said, was that his son started yelling, “She’s not breathing, she’s not breathing!”

The son took his sister out of the water and gave her to his father. Chad tried giving her CPR and did everything he could to save her. Camilla still passed away.

The children’s hospital in The Woodland’s of Houston were given 4 0f her organs for transplants.

“That’s kind of a bitter-sweet moment. But if she can save other lives, then it’s a blessing. That is the only way we can cope with it right now”, Chad Cannon said.

The mother, Daniela Hawthorne, and father Chad are now urging all parents to teach their children to swim at an early age. The father was in the vicinity of this drowning and it still did not matter. Drownings can happen so quickly, particularly with young children.

Life Saver Survivor Swim School’s Students Are Mainly Young Children

Everybody needs to learn to swim, but our main emphasis has always been on infants and young children. As long as our students are 6-months old or older, we teach them to float and/or swim. We teach them to survive if they ever find themselves in an aquatic situation. We teach young children life-saving skills.
